Amulets, or "Khruang Rang" in Thai, permeates through the fabric of Thai society. More than just an object, amulets in Thailand represents one's ability to change the trajectory of their life, or future lifetimes. The practice of wearing sacred amulets derives from Thai Theravada Buddhism, worn previously for protection during battles since the Ayutthaya era (1350 to 1767). Today, potency of amulets cover a range of facets, from well-being, love, to wealth acquisition. They also vary in size, shape, appearance, and materials such as plaster, brass, or wood, depending on the editions and local artisans who handcraft them. All of them, however, have one property in common: they must be sacralized and blessed by monks in order to be determined as authentic.
